Ray Ratto (born 1954) has worked as a journalist in the San Francisco Bay Area since the 1970s and as a sports columnist since the 1980s. He now writes for the San Francisco Chronicle. He works as a “Senior Insider” for the television channel Comcast SportsNet Bay Area and contributes to their website, CSNBayArea.com, as well as for other publications. In addition, he has written national articles for espn.com and is now doing the same for CBS’ sportsline.com, among other publications. 

Following the start of his column-writing career for two now-defunct newspapers, The National and the Peninsula Times Tribune, Ratto went on to become a staff writer for the San Francisco Examiner and the San Francisco Chronicle, and then a columnist for both publications. In 2010, he departed the Chronicle to work for CSNBayArea.com. The Associated Press poll of college football teams is compiled by a group of 60 sports journalists. Ratto is one of them. He appears on Tom Tolbert’s radio programme on KNBR on a regular basis.
